On September 11, 2026, a scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Academician of the NAS RK Kamal Saruarovich Ormantayev — an outstanding scientist and founder of the national school of pediatric surgery, anesthesiology, and traumatology — was held in the Hall of Fame named after Academician Toregeldy Sharmanov at the Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University.

Kamal Saruarovich’s achievements mark a crucial milestone in the history of healthcare in Kazakhstan. Over the course of his career, this prominent surgeon performed more than 20,000 successful operations and led the specialized department for over four decades. Under his guidance, 1,500 specialists were trained, including 16 Doctors and 120 Candidates of Medical Sciences. He is also the author of a number of fundamental scientific works and a recipient of the State Prize.

In recognition of the professor’s significant contribution to medical science, by the decision of the University’s Academic Council dated September 4, 2026, the School of Pediatrics was named after Academician K. S. Ormantayev.

Thanks to his unwavering stance, pediatric education was successfully revived in the country, and the university resumed training specialists in this field in 2017. Today, over 1,500 students study at the faculty, and 586 young pediatricians have already graduated from the institution. Naming the School of Pediatrics after the distinguished academician will serve as a symbol of remembrance and the continuation of his legacy in educating new generations of medical professionals.
