In the modern educational process, the focus is not just on teaching students certain skills, knowledge and abilities, but on shaping a person’s personality and individuality, which will reflect the result of the educational process.
Under the leadership of the head of the Department of Pediatric Diseases named after Professor N.A.Barlybayeva, MD, Associate Professor Tashenova Gulnara Talipovna and Assistant Professor, Master of Medical Sciences Sagimova Raykhan Shyrynbayeva, the student team of Pentada KazNMU Pediatric School, KazNMU named after S.D.Asfendiyarov participated in the IV International Student Olympiad in Pediatric Oncology and Hematology from February 3 2025 to March 15, 2025 in online format (qualifying round, creative competition, 1st round of the competition, semi-final competition) and scheduled for April 12 in Moscow.
The organizers of the IV International Student Olympiad in Pediatric Oncology and Hematology were the Dmitry Rogachev National Research Medical Center in collaboration with the student scientific circle of the Department of Oncology and Hematology and Radiation Therapy of the N.I.Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, Moscow.
The purpose of the Olympiad was to identify talented students with deep knowledge in the field of pediatric oncology and hematology, stimulate students’ interest in studying these academic disciplines and develop participants’ clinical, logical and analytical thinking. Each of the participants had the opportunity to realize their creative and scientific potential in solving complex clinical problems.
The Olympiad was attended by teams from leading medical universities of the Russian Federation and the Pentada KazNMU team from the School of Pediatrics, NAO Kazakh National Medical University named after S.D.Asfendiyarov, Republic of Kazakhstan.
The captain of the team was Elina Madrakhimova, a 4th-year student specializing in Pediatrics of the P-21-018r group, Kamil Nurzhanova, a 5th-year student of the P-20-015r group, and Askerova Aizhan, Valiyeva Munisa, and Khamitov Farukh, students of the P-21-018r group.
Within the framework of the Olympiad, it was planned to hold three stages: the first, the second stages – in absentia in online format, the third – in person, on the bases of the organizing institutions. A creative infographic contest was previously prepared for the qualifying competition on the topic: “Diagnosis of Acute Leukemia in children”, “Lymphadenopathy in children”, “Types of acute Leukemia in children”, “Hodgkin’s lymphoma”, “Ewing’s sarcoma in children” from February 3 to February 08, 2025.
On 02/08/2025, there were individual test tasks of 30 tests in an online format in 60 minutes.
In the semi-final competition on 03/01/2025, there were 2 online individual clinical situational tasks with 10 tasks in pediatric oncology and hematology.
On March 15, 2025, the results were announced, following the results of the semifinal of the Olympiad, all 5 members of the Pentada KazNMU team qualified for the final competition, which will be held on April 12, 2025 at the bases of the organizing institutions in Moscow (there are 65 students on the list). Congratulations to all the team members who made it to the finals!
The team’s achievements are the result of hard work and dedication. Our competitors were 5th-6th year students of scientific student circles in pediatric oncology, hematology and radiation therapy (future oncohematologists) Of the Russian Federation. Our students are competitive future 4th-5th year pediatricians!
The victory of the 4th and 5th year students of the Pentada KazNMU team of the School of Pediatrics in the IV International Olympiad in Pediatric Oncology and Hematology with access to the final round inspires other students to practice daily and improve their practical skills. We are sure that the team members will continue to inspire us all with their example and future victories at other Olympiads!
